Overview
The Enable Barcode Scanning Using the Device Camera feature allows users to scan barcodes directly from their device’s camera, eliminating the need for dedicated barcode scanners(i.e. Zebra Handhelds). This feature supports the scanning of barcodes, QR codes within OrderGrid for various warehouse operations.
Please note that this feature is only available to be use in wms.ordergrid.com (PWA app).
⚠️ Note:
To use the camera-based barcode scanning on the device, ensure:
Your device has a working camera and a stable Wi-Fi connection.
You grant camera permissions when prompted in your browser.
How to configure Camera-Enabled Barcode Scanning
To enable the camera-enabled barcode scanning, first log in to the OrderGrid core app (app.ordergrid.com).
⚠️ Note:
Please note that, based on your role in your warehouse company, you may not have access to the Warehouse Settings.
On your Warehouse Company, navigate to Warehouses > Warehouse Settings in the OrderGrid app (app.ordergrid.com).
Under the Express section, locate the option Enable Barcode Scanning Using the Device Camera and toggle it ON.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save to apply the changes.
Once this setting is applied, the change will be visible to all users with access to the warehouse and supported modules.
Once this setting is enabled, navigate back to wms.ordergrid.com to continue.
Using the Camera Scanner
Once enabled, a floating scanner icon will appear in the bottom left corner of the screen, wherever barcode scanning may be required. This icon can be dragged and moved to different parts of the screen for ease of access.
Supported Modules
The camera scanning feature is available in the following modules within wms.ordergrid.com:
Receiving V2 – Scanning during receiving operations.
Express Orders – Scanning during picking.
Express Actions – Scanning QR codes to locate orders.
Scan Tag – Scanning location tags or bins.
Add Backup EAN – Scanning an item to add a backup barcode.
Lane Transfer – Scanning lanes for transfer operations.
Search Item – Scanning items for lookup.
How to use the scanner?
Tap the Scanner icon
If prompted, click Allow camera access in your browser. This will allow the app to use the on-device camera
A camera widget will appear with the following controls:
Camera Switch (Left Button) – Switches between front, back, and other available camera views.
Flash Toggle (Middle Button) – Turns on/off the device's flashlight for better visibility.
Close Scanner (Right Button) – Closes the scanning window (you can reopen it anytime).
Position the barcode within the scanning frame to capture it.
When scanned successfully, the barcode will be scanned, and the system will process the item.
