Connecting a Zebra ZQ620 Plus Printer to a Zebra Handheld Device

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for pairing a Zebra ZQ620 Plus printer with a Zebra handheld device for seamless printing within the OrderGrid app. (Version 1.0)

Prerequisites

  • A Zebra handheld device that has already been configured for OrderGrid

  • A Zebra ZQ620 Plus printer

  • Access to the Google Play Store

Installing the Zebra Printer Setup App

Before connecting the Zebra handheld device to the Zebra ZQ620 Plus printer, the Zebra Printer Setup Utility app must be installed to configure and manage the printer connection.

  1. On the Zebra handheld device:
    a. Open the Google Play Store.
    b. Search for Zebra Printer Setup Utility.
    c. Select the official Zebra Technologies app.
    d. Tap Install.
    e. Wait for the installation to complete.


Opening the Zebra Printer Setup Utility App

After installing the app, open it to begin configuring the printer connection.

  1. On the handheld device:
    a. Open the Zebra Printer Setup Utility app.

  2. On the Allow location prompt:
    a. Tap Allow.


Connecting Zebra Printer Setup Utility & Bluetooth

After installing the Zebra Printer Setup Utility app, open it and enable Bluetooth to begin connecting the printer.

  1. Power on the Zebra ZQ620 Plus Printer

  2. On the handheld device:
    a. Open the Zebra Printer Setup Utility app.

  3. On the Allow location prompt:
    a. Tap Allow.

  4. Once on the Zebra Printer Setup Utility home screen:
    a. Tap the ≡ (menu icon) in the top-right corner.

  5. On the Printer Setup menu:
    a. Tap the 🔄 (circular refresh icon) to search for printers.

  6. When the Bluetooth Needed prompt appears:
    a. Tap Allow.

  7. When prompted “Allow Printer Setup to connect to and determine the relative position of nearby devices?”
    a. Tap Allow.

  8. On the Zebra Printer, hold the Feed (to the right of the power button) button on the printer until on the Zebra Display shows the blinking Bluetooth button in the top left corner.

  9. Once the Zebra has searched for nearby printers:

    1. Select the printer that appears under “Discovered Printers”

      1. ⚠️ Note: The printer’s name is located on the back of the printer device and is listed as the Serial Number.

  10. Click on the Printer's Serial Number to begin pairing

    1. Once click it will bring a form on both the Printer and the Zebra

      1. Click "Pair" on the Zebra Scanner and "Accept" on the Zebra Printer


Configuring the Printer Settings

Where to Configure These Settings?

All configurations must be set directly on the Zebra ZQ620 Plus using the onboard menu.


From the Home Menu, use the arrow keys and press OK to select.

Print Settings Section

  1. Navigate to ⚙️ Settings → Print.

  2. Scroll through the menu and update the following settings to match the values below:

    1. Darkness

      • Set to 10.1

    2. Print Speed

      • Set to 4.0

    3. Media Type

      • Set to Gap/Notch

    4. Tear Off

      • Set to 0

    5. Print Width

      • Set to 378

    6. Print Mode

      • Set to Tear Off

    7. Label Top

      • Set to 0

    8. Left Position

      • Set to 3

    9. Reprint Mode

      • Set to On

    10. Label Length Max

      • Set to 15

Tools Section

  1. Navigate to 🛠 Tools.

  2. Scroll through the menu and update the following settings to match the values below:

    1. Backlight Timeout

      • Set to 0

    2. Power Up Action

      • Set to No Motion

    3. Head Close Action

      • Set to Feed

    4. Label Length Cal

      • Leave blank

    5. Diagnostic Mode

      • Set to Disabled

    6. ZBI Enabled?

      • Set to No

    7. Password Protect

      • Shows Selected

⚠️ Note: Set Label Size in Zebra Utility App (Prevents Skipping Labels)

If labels are skipping, feeding multiple labels at once, or printing on every few labels instead of each one, confirm the label dimensions inside the Zebra Printer Setup Utility app.

This setting is configured on the Zebra handheld device.

On the Zebra handheld device:

  1. Open the Zebra Printer Setup Utility app.

  2. Select the connected printer.

  3. Navigate to Media Settings.

Set the following values:

  • Label Width = 1.58 in

  • Label Length = 2.45 in

Your Zebra handheld device and Zebra ZQ620 Plus printer are now ready to use with OrderGrid.
